File associations are a feature in Windows to associate a default program to use to open known file types. For example, picture files (.jpg, .bmp, .gif) are associated with the Windows Photo and Fax Viewer by default. When you double click on any picture files in Windows, you will see it opened with this program.
In ONE, during the installation, there is an options page to assign file associations of common document file types (word, spreadsheet, presentation, etc) to the ONE programs. By default, the installation will set the file associations of these document types to the ONE programs. After the file associations of the selected file types are set to the ONE programs, you will notice that the icon for each document type will be changed to the ONE document icons and when you double click on them, the ONE programs will be opened instead of the previously associated programs.
The file association settings are to help our users to more easily access the ONE programs. If you do not wish to associate your common document types with ONE and would prefer to use your existing programs, please make sure to uncheck the boxes for each document type's file associations when presented with the choice during the installation.
If you have already installed the software and you wish to revert the file associations to their pre-installation state, please do the following:
- Click on to the Windows Start Menu
- Highlight All Programs to display a list of the programs available on your system.
- Locate the ONE folder, highlight it to see a list of the ONE programs
- Locate Uninstall and click on it.
- On the Uninstall menu, click on Restore document file associations
- .Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the file association restoration process.
Note: These new changes may not appear until the next time you restart your computer.
Alternatively, If you wish to manually restore the file associations or assign another program to open all files of a particular file type, please do the following:
- Locate a file on Windows that you would like to change the file association for (You can tell which type of file it is by the icon or you can hover your mouse cursor over it for a brief moment to see additional information).
- Right click on the file and select Open With
- At the bottom of the Open With menu, select Choose Program. A new dialog box will come up.
- In the Open With dialog box, select the program you wish to be the default program to open the current file (and all other files of the same type). Click on the program's name.
- Check the check box for Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
- Click OK.
- Repeat the previous steps for all other file types' file associations you wish to change.
Note: These new changes may not appear until the next time you restart your computer. Once the file associations are changed, the next time you double click on a file with the corresponding file type, the program that you assigned will be used to open the file. |
